Can You Transfer from one University to Another?

The short answer? Yes! But, there are some limitations.

It's important to first understand what type of school you attend. For instance, if you attend a University of California (UC), all UC students looking to transfer to another UC are able to complete the transfer applications. However, it is up to the discretion of the university if they wish to accept your application. There are limited spots for lower division and senior transfers to UC schools, as the majority of accepted students have a "junior" standing. Your class standing is determined by the number of units you have completed up until that point (usually counting in-progress units): junior = 90 quarter units and 60 semester units. There is also a minimum GPA that must be met to be considered for transfer. Not all schools accept lower and upper division transfers, so please make sure to do your research. If you attend a California State University (CSU), there are a few ways to transfer. If you attend a California Community College and earn or are earning an AA-T and an AS-T, CSU guarantees you a spot (similar to TAG). CCC-Transfer Success students are also guaranteed spots at a CSU.
